It's a white state, it fits the GOP's demographics, their governor, Phil Scott is a moderate Republican....when will we see Vermont vote GOP at the presidential level?

About 40% of this state's population has higher education. Republicans must be able to make serious inroads with this demographic group before they can be even remotely competitive here, and their recent actions indicate that they aren't taking any serious steps toward that direction.

I anticipate the Northeast Kingdom will follow the trend of Northern NH/ME, which itself is more similar to The Rust Belt, but I think Southern Vermont is still trending Dem, so I'm guessing the state will likely stay in the same position, unless the GOP nominates a regional moderate like Baker, Hogan, or favorite son Scott. Other than that, I don't see the GOP doing well in Vermont at least for the foreseeable future. While the state is rural, the people tend to be far less culturally conservative and have more in common with Massachusetts or the NYC area, especially away from The Canadian border.
