With Rural Maine following the trends of The Rust Belt and trending away from the Dems with several counties breaking 60% and others coming close to it, could a GOP candidate win 70% of the vote in Rural Maine in a future election?

I think so.

Don't take my word for it, but I'm a big proponent of the idea that Maine's on the fast track to becoming a Republican state. All it takes is another 2016-style rural Populist swing. Maine's rurals are very Democratic. If it voted like Missouri, Ohio, Minnesota, or even Wisconsin though presidential elections would look quote different.
