Pretty good ad, not so negative and then a positive twist at the end.

Menendez Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/menendez2006

Discuss and any thoughts on what polls will show in 2 weeks?

I already posted this in the '2006 Campaign Ad Watch' thread. Here are my comments from that thread:

Bob Menendez's new ad:

http://www.dscc.org/ (couldn't find it on youtube for some reason - must be brand spankin new)

I'd give it an 'A' overall. Bob Menendez needs to do these three things over and over and over again in order to win this race:

1 - Tie Kean Jr. to Bush
2 - Tie Kean Jr. to the Iraq War
3 - Point out that Kean Jr. is, in fact, JR. - aka not Tom Kean the former governor.

Numerous polls and political experts have confirmed that all of these things cause Kean Jr.'s support to plummet, and the best strategy is to lump him with Bush and Iraq. Other polls have confirmed people are unaware that he is Tom Kean's son, and after they found out were less likely to support him over Menendez.

This ad very, very effectivly does all three of these things. It also does all of these things very simply and in a very straightforward manor. I wonder if Menendez should pull all of his other less effective ads (compared to this one) and simply run this one 24/7 until Election Day.

Thoughts?

I would add that 4) He needs to tag Kean as the desperate slimer that he is.  This is at least the second time that Kean has jacked him with bogus corruption allegations.  BlueJersey.com has excellent article shredding the charge, but MSM has only played up the allegations, not their baselessness.  He may want to stick to real issues, but that's what Kerry did.

Also, for lots of laughs, check out the reports of Kean camp getting caught trolling Dem blogs.

His ads need to have more impact, have scarier faster music, and scenes from Iraq in the backround. This is probably a lightweight ad compared to whats to come.

Even with these things weighing Kean down, he still leads!

If Bush's approval improves slightly and some progress is made on Iraq, we could be looking at Kean getting 54% or so

I agree with you that Menendez should point out also that all of Kean Jr.'s allegations are completely false and are nothing more than distractions from how Kean Jr. takes no stance on any issues and has no ideas.

I read the transcript of Jill whats-her-name trolling BlueJersey and pretending that she was a Democrat and how they traced the IP address and caught her red-handed. It's pethetic the desperate measures the republicans will go to to try and steal this seat.

Let's wait for a poll that comes out AFTER this ad has been on the air before you make that claim, shall we DWTL???

And you fail to point out that without his daddy's name and the false slime job Kean Jr. is running, he would not be leading anyways. If Kean had neither of these things going for him, Bush's approval could be 60% and Kean Jr. would still be losing.

The ads have just started a week ago? The most Kean could get at all would be 50-51% if he won. But this isnt gonna happen so whatever.
