For 3 cycles in a row, Illinois has gone to Democrats by 17 points, despite shifts in the national environment and underlying political coalitions in the state.

I think a large part of this has to do with Illinois being a microcosm of America in the sense it has a little bit of everything; a big urban center, many different kinds of suburbs, some smaller "cities", and rural areas.

2012: Obama + 16.87
2016: Clinton + 17.06
2020: Biden + 16.99

If it goes to the Dem nominee in 2024 by almost exactly 17 points again it'll hilarious.

I can see Cook County swinging ‘round 3 or 4 points Republican, but the “collar counties” as they say shall probably swing left, with the exception of Will County.

So I can see it staying D+17, but it probably swings a point or so Republican. Nothing too dramatic, however.

It's entirely possible. I agree with Tar Heel Gentleman and I'll guess it votes one point more GOP in 2024.
