I get that retro is in now, and in many places I welcome it, but we had slowly started to move towards the appointment model pre-reset and there are some things that were changed with rather good reason. It was one of Adam Griffin's biggest pet projects as he introduced it for end of terms where it was too late to hold a special and wanted to expand it to the whole term, that expansion came later on either with the rest or just before, but we were moving this way before that as well.

Ultimately this is an instance of subtraction by addition. More democracy, via special elections, ultimately results in a less true representation of the voter base.

I wholeheartedly agree with both the President and Yankee.

Yeah, I'm definitely reevaluating my past stance. For regional legislatures, it works and is necessary given a) the small number of legislators you typically have to begin with and b) the fact that we don't consider legislative or gubernatorial elections to be reflective of the public's perception of the federal government.

As it seems that debate has died down and there appears to be a general consensus, motion for a final vote.

I don't see how it can be gamed if the President has to pick from a list from the party. I don't think a party chair, someone who is not an elected official, should have so much power.

The party chair has more of a mandate to represent their Party's voters than an opposite party President. Generally the system is fine as it is and we don't want general election majorities being overturned before the next election.
