I am pretty sure Italy also has a 25+ voting requirement for its Senate and it works perfectly fine.

which is hardly even an absurd voting age, and is the actual voting age in real life in some cases, as noted in this thread

For what it's worth, the Italian Parliament just passed a constitutional amendment to lower the Senate voting age to 18, so unless a constitutional referendum gets called within three months - which I find pretty unlikely - what you said is no longer true.

You should introduce a system where only tax-paying citizens could vote.

And for the eligible punters, voting would then be compulsory.

Letting children vote has obvious issues, but if they are salary earners at 16, let them vote.

Here is a different take: keep the voting age at 18, and rather than fund free community colleges, raise graduation to grade 14.  Mandate civics classes to grades 13 and 14 so that every student will have gone through an electoral cycle while in civics class.

Other benefits: both practical math and academic math could be mandated, and, best of all by far in this area: first level differential and integral calculus would be included.  All that abstract 'pre calculus' that turn many students off of math would then make sense, and, calculations of basic physics problems would be a great deal easier.

That, in turn, would likely lead to a somewhat to much greater understanding of basic science.  As the calculations are much easier, hopefully the physics teachers would emphasize the concepts they are teaching much more.  I realize they might simply make the calculations using calculus more difficult instead. I would hope they didn't do that.

In order to finance this beyond taking the money from community college, some of these grade 13 and 14 classes would also count as college credits.  College graduation could probably be reduced to 2-3 years which should lower the total cost of tuition.

While I recognize that there are still many service sector jobs that are mainly filled by younger people, the decline in these jobs should make it not too difficult to raise graduation to grade 14.

Why not just go back to male white landowners while you're at it?

Most 11-17 year olds would just vote how their parents tell them, and this would effectively give extra voting power to people with children.

Raise it to 25, but I'm not happy about it.

This seems like an argument for giving 11-17 year olds votes, or even giving parents extra votes for their progeny.

Why should "progeny" grant you extra rights in a democracy?

Why should "progeny" grant you extra rights in a democracy?

Because parents have a vested interest in the future of the country, and ensuring education is a high priority.

That is not a compelling reason.
