The Caudillo Speaks
Countrymen, Spaniards, victory is within grasp. Across the breadth of the country, the forces of God and Country are on the advance, and the false government in Madrid is on the verge of collapse. The Republican government’s prolongation of this conflict out of a desperate attempt to preserve their own power will only cost more Spanish lives. Prime Minister Negrin, when contacted with terms of a generous peace, has elected to continue the war. I will reiterate what was sent to him: any combatant who lays down their arms will be granted amnesty. The war is over, and there is no need for further bloodshed.
On the topic of German friendship, I am pleased to announce Spain’s accession to the Anti-Comintern Pact. As Spain’s experience has shown, the greatest threat posed to the European peace are not the patriotic leaders of Germany and Italy, but rather the godless Bolshevik menace.
Spain is one and indivisible and our recent division is nearly at an end. The people of Spain will soon be able to enjoy the benefits of a long peace, safe in the knowledge that their country is secure. |
