Opinion of nuclear energy?

IMO there really needs to be more of a push towards building next-gen reactors, it's an obvious step in transitioning away from fossil fuels and creating a stable carbon-free base load and it's disappointing to see all the green hippies decrying it as some sort of horrible option when decommissioning nuclear plants without replacements just leads to more fossil-fuel use in the short- and medium-term.
