Fulton County prosecutor investigating Trump aims for indictments as soon as December

Quote
The Georgia prosecutor leading an investigation into efforts by Donald Trump and his allies to overturn the 2020 election is aiming to quickly wrap up the grand jury’s work after the midterm elections and could begin issuing indictments as early as December, sources familiar with the situation tell CNN.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has said that her investigation into attempts to subvert the 2020 election will go quiet beginning later this week to avoid any appearance of influencing the upcoming election. But while her investigation will not make any overt moves in the next few weeks, her team is gearing up for a flurry of activity after Election Day.

Jan. 6 detainees say a D.C. jail is so awful that they'd like a transfer to Guantanamo

https://www.npr.org/2022/10/07/1127481476/capitol-riot-detainees-request-guantanamo-transfer-dc-jail-conditions

Quote
Dozens of individuals held in Washington, D.C.'s jail on charges related to the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol have submitted a handwritten letter to a federal court demanding to be moved to Guantanamo Bay. The detainees say they are living in inhumane conditions.

The seven-page letter reviewed by NPR is signed by 34 defendants, and was submitted as part of a response to the government for its denial of alleged Capitol rioter Ryan Nichols' pretrial release. Nichols is facing multiple charges related to his alleged participation in the insurrection.

The individuals who signed off on the letter include David Dempsey, who allegedly used a chemical spray as well as a crutch and a metal pole to attack police officers guarding the Capitol building, and Ronald Sandlin, who is accused of assaulting police on two separate occasions inside the Capitol.
Quote
The detainees list several issues. The conditions allegedly include no religious services or visitations, "black mold" and "worms" on the jail's walls and in food, abuse by guards, and vaccine requirements for visits and other services. They also say their clothing sent to laundry is returned covered in "brown stains, pubic hair and or reeking of ripe urine." And they say they've lost eyesight and hair because of "malnourishment.

In contrast, the letter says that Guantanamo Bay "actually provides nutritional meals, routine sunlight exposure, top notch medical care, is respectful of religious requirements, has centers for exercise/entertainment for its detainees despite the fact that those residents are malicious terrorists

Family of five sentenced for storming the US Capitol on January 6.

A Texas family of five was sentenced together on Wednesday for storming the Capitol on January 6, with the two parents getting jail time and three adult children given probation and some home confinement.

The Munn family from Borger, Texas, was among some of the first to enter the Capitol on January 6, climbing through a broken window and making their way through the crypt and the visitor center before entering a Senate conference room, according to their sentencing memos.

It's hard to understand how an entire family of five independent-thinking individuals, could all be brain-washed and stupid enough to believe all the Big Lie hogwash.

Thompson did announce at the start that this was technically different and wasn't considered a hearing, I forget what he said it was, some kind of meeting, but it would allow them to make decisions for further investigation. I wonder if that has anything to with the public subpoena (that has not yet happened)?

I feel like screaming when I hear Dan Abrams say that it's unlikely that Donald Trump will be charged in connection with anything relating to the insurrection.  Why not?!?!?!

Abrams says the goal of the hearings is to prevent this from happening again, whereas a prosecution would be to punish.  But BOTH are necessary here.  How will the justice system have any credibility if you can spearhead an insurrection and no charges will be filed against you, but you can fight off an aggressor and be charged with murder because some prosecutor thinks you didn't "value" the life of the aggressor enough--in other words, you weren't Jesus (paging Jose Alba).

Well I think securing a conviction is a lot more likely in MAL so DOJ may just go with that and call it a day since the problem of Trump will be solved in some sense, but I hope they prosecute both.
