Why do people use hashtags here?

This has always struck me as one of the most perplexing forum habits and it makes zero sense. The point of hashtags on social media sites is you can then click on them and see other posts that used the same hashtag. That doesn't happen here, the hashtagged words are no more clickable than anything else.

The only time it makes sense is if you're reporting on a trending hashtag somewhere but usually it's not even that, it's just throwing in hashtags at random and to be blunt: it looks really f[inks]ing stupid.
