The closest thing to a one-party state that is possible here is a situation in which the nation becomes hyperpolarized and "locked" into a situation of one party constantly having narrow control.


Or, as I've described it before, a national Minnesota Party System.

We're actually probably closer to it right now than we have been at any point since McKinley's presidency, but it's still pretty unlikely.
