Trump is influential in the primary but clearly Jackson or Beasley can win the General, Trump only won the state by 1.5%

To an extent, but incredible shifts happen with all sorts of message tests that don’t bear out in reality. Voters who’ve just been told that Trump endorsed Budd will have that in the forefront of their mind, but the primary’s news cycles are likely to have a mix of other stories, especially if Trump doesn’t campaign particularly hard for Budd instead of his other favoured candidates.
