At least it's money, if not that much, here you only get to be godfathered by the president if you're the 7th consecutive son or daughter, in an effort to avoid them from turning into werewolves, and yes, this is an actual law that's still enforced

(There's also the pension for having 7 children, regardless of sex or gender, but that one's less amusing)

When the Soviet Union had this award you got a kind of cool-looking medal too. Is Putin planning to give these women a cool-looking medal?

1m roubles is about enough money to feed 1 kid for a day so not massively helpful.

And by the time some get around to having their 10th (!) child, it will likely be worth even less.

Example #240513 of the hard-right's obsession with family above all else. Even then, who the hell would want to have ten kids in exchange for the equivelent of 16K USD? Wouldn't you have to spend more than that just to raise that many children in the first place?

Being obsessed with family above all else is a virtue, but it's not one that the hard-right has. They're obsessed with childbirth, with no care whatsoever for family.

Communist Romania during the 70s-80s did a similar thing, but the reward was a car.

A. Car. For a family that's presumably now two adults and ten children.

If Moscow really is the third Rome, then Putin should put his money where his mouth is and complete this package by reviving Lupercalia. Just imo

A lot of countries have baby bonuses. This particular example is notable for how Soviet it is.

I support incentives for childbearing, but that part jumped out at me too. The mark of 10 children is probably not a coincidence considering that Putin has been actively invoking Russian memory in other aspects.

My personal favorite childbearing incentive in the world is that in the country of Georgia third-born and later children are personally baptized by the Catholicos-Patriarch. I wonder if parents feel somewhat cheated since he is old and decrepit now and needs an assistant to actually dunk the child. Maybe not though, since he is overwhelmingly popular in the country.
