Option for "Support Trump, explain how BLM had it coming, etc." is missing. (They'd also simultaneously say the victim was killed by BLM to make Trump look bad, that the killer was antifa trying to make Trump look bad, etc.)

Trump attempted a coup, and it was on live tv.

Not only do they still support him, they won't even acknowledge that it was an attempted coup.

They will never leave him, and they are traitors just like he is.

It's not just the betrayal of America. And forget "shooting someone on Main Street". Donald Trump's actions led to the deaths of thousands and thousands of his followers and their response was to like him harder.  The GOP has become a death cult, and the rest of America's unwillingness to come to terms with that just means the eventual toll it takes on America and humanity will be that much worse.

Do red avatars feel insecure about their moral standing? What would be the point of this thread if not to shore it up in one's own eyes?

It's driven by what is sometimes called 'morbid fascination'. The GOP's continued loyalty to Donald Trump - their collective decision to become a hate-filled death cult lacking intellect, morals, or self-awareness - is a horrific and tragic disaster of immense proportions. Such disasters trigger survival instincts and compel attention, so we can decide between flight or fight. (A particularly apt comparison,  given the "Republicans" intent to turn America into racist authoritarian state, or destroy it trying.)

Edited to remove my unfair comparison of the Republican party to members of Porifera.
