What would a Harris vs. Portman map look like?

He is the most generic republican I could think of, from the old guard. Very vanilla but non-threatening.

Could he revive the suburbs for the GOP?

Rural turnout would be lower than Trump had.

Everyone on here has qualms about Harris.

Kamala would slap the sh**t out of him as 15.6% of the Trump base stays home.

I don't think significant numbers of Trump voters are staying home unless the Republican nominee constantly trashes Trump, and even then they might not. Also, the Democratic trend in the suburbs is not a Trump specific phenomenon, so even if a "less offensive" Republican runs, that trend isn't just going to reverse itself, though it might slow down a bit.

Overall, I'd give Portman a slight edge. He actually could appeal to more Independents, and while I don't have a hate boner for Harris like some do, I do think she'd make some missteps that would cost her against Portman.

Portman would have a suburban resurgence of sort, but he probably won't get the same working class support Trump got.
