Even if she's the nominee, the loony AZ GOP base wouldn't turn out for a woman of color, so Lean/Likely D.

I expected her to run for Senate and for Brnovich to go for Governor. I wonder if that means Brnovich is running against Kelly.

AZ and OH and NC are the only 3 states to split their votes between SEN and Gov in 2018/2020, it's not an 8.0 Environment but in 500 it can be or a 5.0 Environment and all three can split again for SEN and Gov, Ryan, Beasley and Kelly can win while Renacci and Rs in AZ take the Gov

I wonder who will challenge Yee in the primary. If it's someone like Gosar, say hello to whoever the Dems nominate as Governor.

Probably the best candidate the AZ GOP can put up statewide. Of course, that doesn't mean their voters will see it that way.

EDIT: Just watched her campaign video. Looks like shes just another MAGA nut on par with every other AZ Republican. This is the best the AZ GOP has to offer? Shes got the experience down, but her problem is the same as everyone elses. She can win the primary, but the GE might be another story (B I D E N M I D T E R M Notwithstanding).

Also, I thought Arizona would've learned from Nevada the perils of building entire campaigns around being anti-California. Not everyone who moves out of California is a Republican.

Who’s running for the Democrats? Who are their best candidates?

Katie Hobbs and Greg Stanton seem like two top tier candidates to me. I imagine one (if not both) of them will end up running.

I think Mayor Gallego could also throw her hat in — and possibly win the nomination. She probably sits it out but there’s probably a lot of upside to jumping in...otherwise she has to wait until 2026.

Personally, I find Hobbs to be an atrocious candidate, even if I like her personally and think she has had to endure so much. I suspect she would lose against most GOPers. Stanton, as a vanilla blank slate, would be a better choice.

I expected her to run for Senate and for Brnovich to go for Governor. I wonder if that means Brnovich is running against Kelly.

This doesn’t say as much about Brnovich as it does about Ducey running against Kelly, IMO.

Good grief, that video was Loony Lamon-tier awful. She’s going to inevitably blow it, isn’t she? AZ GOP gonna AZ GOP, I guess.

If she keeps self-destructing by criticizing Biden's response to the "border crisis", dropping Trump's name, and repeating lame & blatantly inaccurate GOP platitudes while not even bringing herself to disavow the January insurrection, she’s gonna lose and it won’t be close. At this point, I’ve seen enough to deduce that the Fink & Rob Sand (especially without Trump on the ballot) and Glenn Youngkin (who’s actually a strong candidate running in a true 50/50 state in a race that will basically determine the 2022 results) are more likely to win than her.

Eh, seems like a pretty standard ad for the 2021 GOP. It's pretty clear she's hoping the 49% of the electorate that went for Trump can be enough for a majority in a midterm year which is a pretty reasonable assumption. Bashing California and spooky illegals is, I assume, a pretty easy way to get red meat points from the base.

Seems like a pretty savvy way to start off, honestly. Remains to be seen if she can make a compelling case other than being what amounts to Generic R.

Ducey had pretty poor approval ratings in 2020, even leaving aside the 2020 election, since the Covid response was weak and Arizona has one of the highest per capita death rates in the nation. Could that drag down Yee slightly, or could she easily separate herself from Ducey?

No matter how often these Republican hacks repeat this "muh socialism!" stuff, it doesn't become true.

Yes, but the problem is that most establishment Democrats nowadays have a tendency to cower and shrivel in the face of such attacks, contrary to the advice of Harry Truman regarding this issue. This is what actually renders such attacks effective.

Yup, and that the broader American public has a misconception what real socialism means. Not even Denmark and Sweden are the definition of socialism by dictionary. Cuba and former satellite states of the Eastern bloc would met the actual definition. Problem is for a Dem politician to explain that risks you to appear kind of professorial -- and most voters don't like being lectured. For too many Americans socialism is any kind of govt interference, despite the fact the word is no longer as toxic as it was 15-20 or even 10 years ago.

Katie Hobbs in, after the Arizona Republicans transferred away election lawsuit powers from the Secretary of State to the Attorney General as part of the budgeting process.

It’s been widely assumed she’d run since she won the Secretary race. I can’t imagine any other Democrat giving her a real challenge for the nomination. The amount of free publicity she’s gotten from the Maricopa audit was a huge in-kind gift to her.

Greg Stanton could give her a run for her money, but he'll probably just end up running for reelection to avoid a messy primary.

She’s probably the best candidate.
