If Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear wins reelection in 2023 and is considered to be Kamala Harris' running mate in 2024 if President Biden retires, what would Beshear bring to the ticket?

*Beshear is from a deep red state that elects Democrats ancestrally at the local level, Kentucky is not needed for the Democratic Party's electoral prospects.
*Is Beshear moderate or progressive? Will he turn off the liberal base in Philadelphia, Detroit, Milwaukee, Atlanta, Portland, etc.?
*Is a white man needed in the 2020's Democratic Party?

Beshear brings a bit of extra support from Appalachia, and he doesn’t do much. If you need a white guy Governor from the south, choose Roy Cooper instead.

A bit of Appalachia support. Perhaps make Ohio a bit closer.

This is the greatest understatement made since the time of the dinosaurs. "Perhaps" Bashear would "make Ohio a bit closer"? Get real! Try "flipping Ohio by 30 points, Kentucky by 10 points, and West Virginia by anywhere from -10 to 5 points"

Interesting you think this.

Beshear will be out of a job in 2023, so I guess he could do worse than this.

Unless Matt Bevin is the 2023 nominee, I'm doubting that Beshear will win re-election.

If you want a white male CentriDem, why not Casey, who’s from a state that actually matters in Presidential elections?

I think there are 2 reasons

1. Casey is a little bit old, he'll be 64 by 2024
2. PA-Sen 2024 is more likely to flip without Casey running.

He has executive experience, no Washington baggage, adds geographic balance, and seems to have an uncontroversial family life.

The main downside may be that someone whose father was a Governor and whose political career was entirely in Kentucky may be unfamiliar with national issues, but a guy who could be elected Governor in Kentucky as a Democrat is unlikely to say something that would piss off swing voters.

For point 1, while I would love to see younger political leaders in general, Casey wouldn't exactly be a huge outlier when it comes to VPs.

100% agree with point 2; Casey is one statewide PA Dem who still pulls half-decent numbers in the rurals/exurbans.

Would be a great choice, but he’s pro-life and that isn’t a popular position in the modern day Democratic Party. Even though he votes in support of abortion rights recently, being pro-life would really hurt him.

I agree.

Even with Beshear on the ticket, Harris wouldn't win Kentucky.

Better to have a running mate from a more swingy state, such as Bob Casey, John Fetterman, Sherrod Brown, Tim Ryan, Ron Kind, Roy Cooper, or even Mark Kelly.

some appeal into states in which Democrats have done catastrophically badly since 2008 that they used to win.

Bill Clinton is the last Democratic presidential nominee to win Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Tennessee, and West Virginia... and he won them twice. Although Missouri got close in 2008, it has spiraled out of contention.

Those states used to generally vote D... but suggesting that they could be close in 2024 is good for some laughs. On the other hand... what good things have right-wing pols done lately for blue-collar white people in those states?

Covid will dictate this Election not, anything else, and D's are favs to duplicate the 303 blue wall anyways Beshear isn't running for Veep until his term expires in 2027 anyways, he isn't running in 2024 since Biden is our nominee, but PA has not Elected a female Sen or Gov and it was the softest on Hillary, PA can be won if Beshear is on the Ballot

Good looks.  Obviously he wouldn't flip Kentucky but maybe he has some appeal to Southerners which makes Georgia and North Carolina an easier lift.

He would actually be a really good choice IMO.  I think a southern white male democrat would be the best choice for her to balance out the ticket.  And she'd probably want to go for a map through much of the south rather than say Wisconsin.
