At this point its hard to see how Cuomo is the nominee in 2022... but unclear what will happen.

Also shows how stupid the galaxy brain twitter meltdown was among some democrats was when he wasn't picked for a cabinet position; this sort of stuff rarely happens without people in political circles at least knowing.

Cuomo is and always has been scum.  He is an abusive predator who needs to resign immediately and failing that, be impeached ASAP.

Letitia James does not accept Cuomo's proposal. Per NY Post, Kathy Hochul also has backed James' position and called for an independent investigation.

Now I have no sympathy for Cuomo.  He ought to resign.

The problem here is that the two (2) individuals here (Hochul and James) are hardly disinterested parties.  Hochul becomes Governor if Cuomo is forced out, while James likely wishes to be Governor herself.  Hochul succeeding James precludes this.  That, however, means that ANOTHER key statewide office (two of three if you consider that to be the Governorship and the two Senate seats to be the BiG prizes) go to non-NYC Democrats.  NYC Democrats were NOT happy when the upstater Gillibrand succeeded HRC, and they certainly want one of their own to be Governor.

James, I am sure, would prefer to take Cuomo out, and defeat him in a primary without dealing with a Hochul succession.   Bill DeBlasio and a number of others who would aspire to the Governorship from NYC would prefer that route as well.  A quick resignation would put Hochul in a strong position in that she would be the first Female Governor of NY who hasn't done anything wrong.  A long, drawn-out process of investigation, possible impeachment, and possible removal if impeached would hurt Hochul versus other Democrats, but it would also improve the chances of a Republican winning the Governorship.

Could a Republican be elected Governor of NY?  Quite possibly, particularly if a Democratic Primary loser is the Working Families Party's nominee?  Perhaps the Democrats could airlift a candidate in as they did in 2010 when Cuomo, himself, was airlifted to overcome the scandals of Eliot Spitzer and the incompetence of David Patterson.  Perhaps the Republicans could nominate a high-profile Democrat who'd be willing to switch parties.

If I were a NY Democrat not interested in being Governor I would be hoping Cuomo would resign, and resign soon.

Well Cuomo ironically used his time as AG to prepare the ground for becoming Governor...

If he doesn't step down, Hilary should run to primary him. Only half joking.

I'm trying to imagine Cuomo actually saying this. This is certainly a weak-willed defense, and he needs to resign.

He's going to try to run out the clock, and hope that by the time the harassment scandal blows over everyone has forgotten about his criminal handling of the pandemic. He should resign.

If Hochul does take over, I'm not sure that would necessarily mean a two-way primary. The left in particular would be keen on a large primary, because it would increase their chances of success.

I suspect the WFP would nominate a placeholder candidate for Governor so they could take them off the ballot in favour of the Dem nominee, unless Democrats decide to use their super-majorities to relax the rules on removing candidates from the ballot.

I don't know if he'll run for re-election, but I now believe he won't quit and won't be impeached.

He's made it through the tough part.  No one's focusing on him now.  He may yet run for re-election, and he may yet win.  That's a reflection on New York and not a reflection on Cuomo.
