I think Hitler wins by 2 points, but I could see it being a blowout.

I would not all be surprised if a sizable chunk of the WV population sympathized at least somewhat with Hitler's views. I think a good chunk of the state would stay home, but Hitler would still win. There is absolutely no way Colin Kaepernick wins a state full of lots of racist white people.

It's a Republican State.

Hitler wins by twenty against Kaepernick. Hell, he'd probably win by 10-15 against Manchin.

West Virginia was a state that gave George Wallace less % of the vote than the nation did as a whole

Hitler could win. 15% of West Virginian voters support or have some sympathy for Hitler's views, tops. Same number could vote for Kaepernick. 70% of people stay home (on top of everyone else, which means ~10% turnout), and Hitler wins narrowly, with 5% of the state's populace voting for him.

A massive-scale version of the 'hillary can't lose and I have a TV show to bingewatch' effect.

Every single comment favors Hitler here while the poll has Kaepernick winning. Guys, we're not that far gone that literally Hitler would win states! The name's got too much stigma attached to it for that. Someone with Hitler's views but a different name, on the other hand? WV would definitely vote for Hadolf Itler over Kaepernick.

Roy Moore would've won AL-Sen by 20% against Kaepernick.

That doesn't make them not racist? The fact that they swung so far away from the Democrats in 2008 tells you all that you need to know.

You have way too much faith in racist whites.

WV trended similarly GOP from 2004-2008 as it did in 1996-2000 as well . It’s just that trends slowed down a bit in 2004 like they usually do in re-election campaigns like they usually do .

The fact is WV started trended around 10 points Republican every cycle beginning in 2000 with the only exceptions being 2004 which was due to the the fact that trends slow down in the re-election bids and 2020 cause of that factor and the ceiling factor . Once you take that into account it makes perfect sense that WV swung R in 2008 as the nation still didn’t swing D by more than an 10 points

Say what you will about West Virginia, but I don’t think a state that STILL to this day has a Democratic senator would vote for literally Hitler just because he has an R next to a name. Granted, going up against Kaepernick might make it a bit closer than if it was against, say, Manchin (who would ROFLstomp Hitler). But ultimately I doubt Hitler wins. Yes, it’s true that a lot of Appalachia and the rural South trended hard R following the nomination of Obama, but at least in 2008, that doesn’t seem to have been quite as severe in WV actually as in some other states. He still won McDowell County for Christ’s sake; certainly racism is a factor that can’t be ignored, but also clearly it was complicated and a lot more was going on. The state and region had been trending rapidly R already even with white Democratic nominees, after all. And just continued to do so with more white nominees.

Also even racial prejudice against blacks does not necessarily make you a literal Nazi who would support Hitler. That is just way over the line on so many levels.

Considering Kaepernick is probably one of the most despised people in WV, he would squeak out a 2-4% win since he's literally running against Hitler.

In a state like WV, a Libertarian candidate would probably win over both. If that's somehow not an option, very low voter turnout and a landslide percentage win for the former QB.

Hitler is proven to be evil, vile, and monstrous. But if someone with Hitler's views were a smart campaigner, they could win, but this involves not revealing their full "power level". Steve King for example.

Hitler would have a chance and might even be favored without hindsight. He might do almost almost as well as a Generic R. It's not incredible unlikely that Kaep gets under 40%. With hindsight only on Hitler, I can see Kaep winning by a very comfortable, but the margin would be thin enough to make me very concerned (Hitler breaks 40%).

You mean the Adolf Hitler who won an election in Namibia and swore he had no plans for world domination? (Yes this really happened)

He would obviously win.

Some of y'all are ridiculous. Kaepernick would win by double digits. Yes Hitler might depressingly crack close to 30% but he's not winning a US State absent an Axis occupation after WWII...

Unironically and seriously, Hitler loses and in a landslide, but he might just win some counties.

I think that Kaepernick could become quite competitive in Oklahoma County so that West Virginia will probably remain the only GOP-swept state.
