The outgoing Maryland governor is not running for U.S. Senate. He wants to be president. If Trump or DeSantis or Cruz don't run, what is his path?

Is there a path? New Hampshire? Will South Carolina like him?

He doesn't have one, and he wouldn't have had one in 2016 or 2012 either, before anyone implies that he could have won without Trump as a factor.

Be named the running-mate & make sure that "an unfortunate accident" befalls the top-of-the-ticket after the convention.

Would he be a good Cabinet secretary in a Republican administration like Treasury Secy. or something?

He'd never get confirmed. I can't think of a Democrat who'd vote for him (except maybe Manchin), and I can't think of a Republican who'd vote for him (except maybe Collins/Murkowski/Romney)

Massive split and incredibly ugly war in the Trump/far-right wing of the GOP.

Think Trump vs. Hawley vs. Cotton, with Hogan being the only other serious contender.

Needless to say, this isn't a likely scenario.

Trump forms his own 3rd party and takes his minions along with him. That's opens up the GOP to be a Bush 43/Romney-style party again. Obviously, this isn't going to happen though.
