The irrelevance of both candidates causes the US to effectively become a parliamentary democracy with the Speaker of the House effectively being the Prime Minister. The VP will then actually take on the role of President of the Senate. The Speaker will constantly be trying to find ways to get rid of the VP or make them ascend if they’re of different parties. Meanwhile, the president’s role will be something like Zaphod Beeblebrox: distracting people from the actual power of Congress. A friend and I came up with the idea of this system back in 2015 when discussing the idea of Gilmore becoming president.
