This bill is pretty simple: it legalizes diversity training again. Diversity training is meant to reduce prejudice and discrimination, and teach people who are different from each other to work together. Prejudice and discrimination remain issues that still face us today and we need to combat them, this bill would help to do that.

Uhhhh............was there an override vote in another thread? Because it looks like we're trying to repeal a bill that got veto'd by the Governor.

Oh okay. No indication of that on the thread.

Now that Grandpa Leinad knows where he is, a few thoughts:

-I will agree that some racial discourse is more academic than practical, and if told in the wrong way can make people think it's a personal attack. "Racism, at least the sort we should address, is more structural than personal" often gets translated to "all of you are racist" by naive young people addicted to performative bulls***, concern trolls, and those taught by either. However, I don't demonize academic talk of racism--it's obviously not my main area of interest or expertise, but I always beieve society (yes, the one in which we do, indeed, live!) should be examined. Things like this kinda seem to throw the baby out with the bathwater, where the intention is not "let's talk about race better" but "let's not talk about it at all," and I'm not convinced that's a good choice.

-I wonder if it would be possible for a bill to make "diversity training" better?

-Re-read the original bill and tell me this isn't literally creating "professional victimhood" lol

I am sponsoring this repeal because I believe racial discussion and diversity training is an important asset as we try to combat racial discrimination and try to bring people together. We should to be able to discuss our problems in an honest manner without having to worry about facing any sort of penalties. I will admit that even though I'm not an expert on the topic, the current way of doing things is not perfect and needs room for improvement. We should be aiming to make our racial discourse better, which just won't happen if we just shut everything down and ban it.

Anything further to say on this? If not I'll move for a final vote in a day or two.

I would rather amend the original bill rather than repeal it. Some of the punishments can be made more lenient.

While I am slightly disappointed that the Lincoln council will re-authorize this (not too much, the original bill was poorly written anyways), I am happy that the people in favour of repeal didn't try and go with some half measure compromise.

I guess next Fed trifecta in Lincoln will just pass it again, rinse and repeat Tongue
