I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find a relevant topic. Who'd have the GOP run against Clinton in 2020 if she'd beaten Trump? Presumably this person would've had an extremely good chance of winning, considering the White House would've been controlled by the same party for 12 years, and Hillary would have had to contend with a hostile GOP Congress the entire time (maybe we'd have won the Senate in 2016, but the House was out of reach without the suburban shift expedited by Trump).
And would the GOP nominee in 2020 have depended on Clinton's 2016 margin of victory? In other words, is a Trump-like nominee in 2020 more likely if Trump had lost narrowly in 2016, versus if he had lost handily
