If I were DeSantis, I wouldn't accept the offer. If Trump lose again, it hurts DeSantis. If he wins, which is not very likely, and his policy are not very popular, it hurts DeSantis as well. In recent history, VP are not a good spot to win election. You need a Reagan to carry you, and it's highly unlikely that Trump can be that popular.

If Trump runs again, it's better for DeSantis to finish his 2nd term. His current approach is good enough. Even in the case that Trump wins again, his VP, Noem or someone else, is not likely to match DeSantis for popularity.

This was purely a power move by Trump, he's seeing all the DeSantis talk so he put him down a bit by suggesting he'd be a good #2. Never count out Trump's ego.

Brittle target for his handling of the COVID-19 mess in his state.

Besides, the President and Vice-President cannot be from the same state, and Trump has become a Florida resident. This explains why Dick Cheney changed his residence from Texas to Wyoming. He has good cause to not move back to New York State.

What COVID mess? You keep saying that DeSantis will be sunk by his handling of it, but he really didn’t do that bad. Especially compared to media hero Andrew Cuomo.

According to Worldometers, Florida is 28th in deaths per capita. For a state with a huge elderly population, that is actually quite impressive.

Just what America needs....Tweedle dee and tweedle dumb. Thankfully this deadly combo is dead on arrival with the same state rule, but also just in general out of sheer fear and exhaustion.

Both candidates are from Florida, so that would not be allowed unless Trump changes his home state (back to NY?).

Can't Trump can buy real estate in Wyoming or wherever? He then lives there for a while to fulfill the technical requirement for it being his home state.

The Constitution does not clearly define what a person needs to be from a particular "home state." Trump just needs to survive a Supreme Court ruling in a case akin to Bush v Gore.

I heard Trump is moving to New Jersey for the next several months while Mar-a-Lago is closed (and during the harsh Florida summers). More than likely if Trump runs again and DeSantis is his favored running mate choice, Trump would just make his home state New Jersey for the sake of having DeSantis on the ticket.

First candidate to have three official home states? (Has anyone before him even had two?)

Paul Ryan said the Party needs to move past Trump, he made that crystal clear as Trump Approvals are at 32 percent, due to Insurrectionists, Liz Cheney and Boehner said the samething

Yeah, in a lot of circles it seems that the narrative that was established last March-May just became the permanent narrative even if it didn't particularly persist or bear out.

I mean Dick Cheney had to move his home state from Texas to Wyoming in order to be W. Bush's running mate, but that's about the only other example I can think of.

Disagree. It's clear that DeSantis won't compete with Trump for nominee if Trump runs again. It's also clear that if Trump doesn't, DeSantis would be his favorite.

The name recognition of DeSantis is not high enough yet, comparing to say Pence, Cruz. Trump saying so is boosting his his name recognition instead of sinking.

That it's not allowed is a misconception. A party can absolutely have two nominees from the same state. But if they do, per Article II, Florida's electors cannot vote for them. With that in mind,  I think this is a superb idea.

I can't see DeSantis accepting second banana to Trump, especially if Biden looks to be difficult to unseat (assuming he runs again, which I think he will). He'd probably just patiently wait for 2028 instead and stay on Trump's good-side.

I still suspect that trump will choose Noem, who is basically DeSantis with an x-chromosome.

Everyone that works directly with Trump has their reputation destroyed in the eyes of most Americans, including conservatives once Trump inevitably turns on them. Accepting Trump's VP slot is a terrible idea so if DeSantis wants to have a political future then he shouldn't even consider it.

Trump is irrelevant, all the Ds need is 278, if he is the Nominee, he will be attacked with ads over Insurrectionists over and over again

It was the plan for Pence to run all along and he is the better option but still would lose in GE

No way WI, PA and MI votes for those two again , they only won in 2016 due to 3rd party spoiler Gary Johnson

This works out for neither of them. Trump is going to want to shore up the southwest or double down on appealing to the midwest next time.

That said, I could see it
