This summer, CRUMBLING REICH broke ground for how a historical game could work, meshing election mechanics with political intrigue and violent combat. While unfinished due to burnout and Election Day, it really was a great game with amazing wonderful players, and if I do say so myself, changed the way games can be run. As the Spring blossoms, NYC's cherry blossoms included, and summer approaches, I am pondering the idea of a similar game, but this time set in 1917 Russia, in the tumult and turmoil of the Revolution.

Reaching out to see if people are interested, once my current game wraps up.

Good interest so far, would love to see more.

My plan was for the game to start right after the abdication of Nicholas II.

Sounds interesting, I‘m currently reading up the Crumbling Reich game and, if time allows it, I would participate in this one.

I would love for you and your amazing signature to join!
Crumbling Reich is really great, I've been reading over it too and I'm so proud of what everyone accomplished.

Unfortunately, sometimes its hard to see from the threads exactly how much there was going on under the surface with that game. For the government's part, the absolute madness of trying to keep the rightist coalition united despite the unending duel to the death between Mehrun and Hugenberg while at the same time needing to get either NSDAP or SDP votes to do anything wasn't always clear. I also understand that Devout Centrist was running a very strong underground campaign as Thalmann that was setting him up at the end for possible (probable?) KPD victory.

Probable, due to said right wing infighting

I'd join in. If there's interest in finishing Crumbling Reich, I'd love to get that done too.

Wonderful, I was hoping you'd be interested.

I wouldn't be opposed to finishing Crumbling Reich, but that would require I think the gang to get back together.

If I recall, some things were about to go down between the KPD and SPD, and Hugenberg had just fallen. In might just be that civil war was inevitable. But I'll hear what people have to say.

I guess I'll have to switch over from my CRUMBLING REICH playlist of German communist music and Prussian marches to a new Russian one! Unfortunately German communist music is too good to avoid!

I am tentatively down. Preemptively calling dibs on Roman von Ungern-Sternberg if he is a playable character.
Was going to message to see if you were interested! Great news.

When in 1917 do you plan on basing the game start? The cast is quite different if you start in January versus starting in June.

My first instinct was between the two, specifically immediately after the abdication of Nicholas II. However, I am very interested in the possible case for the game to start before that (perhaps right after the death of Rasputin).

There is also the question of whether it should start before/after Michael Alexandrovich declined the throne.

Any time between the January and October Revolutions would be reasonable.

Since World War One would be ongoing, and Russia would still be an active combatant, would the leaders of Britain/France/Germany/Austria-Hungary be available as possible characters?

They would not be available, I want to focus on Russia

Very excited to see this start! I'm curious as far as characters are concerned, how closely are we going to be bound by their real life decisions? Is it going to be follow the broad strokes generally, or will characters like Kerensky and Milyukov be more stringently bound to their more disastrous ideas?

You will be free to make decisions as your character that they may or could have taken, reasonably. There's no point in merely replaying history, but obviously there are some things some characters can't reasonably do.

How dare you deny us Black Hundreds leader Trotsky facing off with the Bolshevik general Kornilov.
Tongue

Are you too on board with starting immediately after abdication?

The only person who should have input is you; the role of GM is too much time and work to let anyone else make that decision.

Fair enough, I’m fine with ruling as an autocrat! Cheesy

I just have to decide the Michael Alexandrovich question and then post the sign up
