There's a new site for the Campaign Trail game after the old site's certificate security expired. No one knew if it would come back so a new site was made.

https://newcampaigntrail.github.io/newcampaigntrail/www.americanhistoryusa.com/campaign-trail/index.html

Played an Obama 2012 game on Easy, messed around and got this result where MN votes to the right of IA, WI, MI and PA.....

They've also incorporated some new things like a 1964 mod and a "Very Easy" difficulty for most if not all years.

Considering the old version is unlikely to be adding anything new anytime soon, I think this GitHub version has a lot of potential.

Why did he add 1964 and not 1992 or 2004

It comes from a mod on the r/thecampaigntrail subreddit. There are also some mods for 1796 and 1980 there but they aren't nearly as good.

Trump v. Hillary (played as Trump on Hard):

Trump/Sessions: 44.3%
Clinton/Sanders: 49.6%

Election hinged on 500 votes in MI... or 2,000 votes in WI... or 8,500 in PA.

Hey, I'd forgotten about this, glad to hear it's back with mods. But before checking those out, I gave 2016 a spin on normal as Clinton/Kaine which I don't think I'd done before, and basically inverted the results. Didn't expect to pull out FL, though Michigan was closer which I won by less than 40,000k votes.

The modders have already made one apparently and just need to make the questions and it has a good chance of being added. 1980 as well.

The original creator of the game DIDN'T make this, a modder did. The game's reddit is quite an amazing community with the ability to do great stuff for the game. Which is why I have a lot of optimism for this new site going forward.

Seems like a 1996 mod is being worked on and could potentially be added to the base game if it receives enough support.

Just ran a fairly generic centre-right game as Nixon/Agnew on normal, sabotaged the peace talks and won OTL+PA. I need to try something more unique sometime!

I played as Goldwater on very easy difficulty and still lost the popular vote by 14 points and got 119 electoral votes. Then I played as Bush on very easy in 1988 to see if I could get a 50 state sweep, and on my first (and so far only) try I lost Rhode Island by just 401 votes or 0.09%, so it was 531-7. So close.

Ran As Carter/Church on normal ran a fairly liberal and dovish campaign campaigned very hard in IL OH TX and CA and ended up winning by quite a lot I was pretty liberal on civil rights too which made a lot of states closer in the south and probably cost me MS funnily enough the popular vote was even tighter than Irl I won 49.1-48%

Tried to beat Dewey as Truman and underperformed, deadlocking the EC thanks to Strom Thurmond. Somehow I've never even considered this outcome. I got the plurality of the popular vote but Dewey got the plurality in the EC. The end blurb suggested one could serve as the other's VP in this situation, was this actually considered? Also I pasted the map code below but it doesn't seem to want to display in my preview - hopefully it'll show up for real.

As Goldwater. Lost the popular vote by 55.9%-44.1%. Managed to win something in essentially every region of the country, so that might keep the right-wing of the party in the game in 1968.

Lost as WJB in 1896 while winning a majority of the popular vote. Moderated slightly on tariffs but stayed progressive most everywhere else and stuck with the 16:1 silver stump speech. In the end, I trusted the Iowa governor to pull that state out for me and neglected it myself. I believe it was the second closest state that could have flipped the election, the other being Michigan. I wonder if WJB could win in 1900 in this scenario?

Went back to the 2004 mod. Played as Kerry and lost 276-262. Winning Ohio but losing Wisconsin and the election.
