Why did the Capitol rioters think they'd get away with it?

That just blows my mind. Especially considering how many basically doxxed themselves or posted on social media evidence against them under their real names. And they thought they could just go home like it was a film festival or comic convention.

There's a video I saw of a woman crying in an airport after she was denied boarding her flight because she was added to the "no fly" list. Like what did she expect? Maybe not it happening that fast but being arrested by the FBI at home isn't pleasant either. Or that West Virginia Delegate guy. Did he seriously think everyone would just shrug over his actions there that he openly livestreamed?

It really makes no sense. It's akin to robbing a bank and then making public Facebook posts bragging about it and showing you with what you robbed.
