I believe Hart supporters were more of the stereotypical "latte liberal" demographic(think Buttigieg or Warren), while Mondale support is more mainstream sort of Biden across various ethnic and class lines(a little bit from everybody).  Meanwhile Jesse Jackson( who is important in 84 and 88) support was among black voters and hardcore liberals( think Obama 08 sort of but much smaller and more polarizing)

I got the idea Mondale had more of the Union worker, farmer type vote older Dems while Hart had the wealthy “latte liberals” and youth. Maybe very similiar to Clinton v Sanders coalitions with less of the stark male female divide.  Jackson taking a hunk of the Black vote that proably would have gone to Mondale in a two man race.
