I feel like people haven’t talked about him enough. He, and DeSantis are the two most likely governors to be the GOP nominee. Greg Abbott just seems so obvious of a candidate, and people haven’t discussed him at all.

He doesn't have much name recognition.

He’s governor of one of the largest states in the US. He was also known for getting rid of his states mask mandate early. I think he has lower name recognition than DeSantis, it’s just that his name IS out there.

It has never been tested in modern times how a presidential candidate in a wheelchair would fare. Obviously it was a much different story with FDR since media presence on TV and on social media was far less/nonexistent. Furthermore, the press was much more restrained on private lives of politicians until the 1970s. Reporters back then knew about his illness, but granted him far more privacy than it ever would be the case today (later the same with JFK's affairs).

The GOP will never nominate a cripple on a national ticket.   10% of the GOP base consists of the bullies in grade school who liberally dispensed atomic wedgies and harassed the special-eds, and will thus be apathetic and stay home on election day if Abbot were to the nominee.  Even though this will largely be on a subconscious level.  TRUMP continues to hold sway over these people for a good reason.

Strength on the local and state levels ≠ strength on the national level.
