It was all coming down to Kansas. Feingold had been battling Debbie Stabenow for months, after everyone else had dropped out. Kansas results were going to be close, and he anxiously waited. Then it came.

2020 Democratic Kansas Primary:
✓Sen. Russ Feingold: 56%
Sen. Debbie Stabenow: 44%

He had won the nomination. By a few delegates, for sure, but dozens of superdelegates had pledged their support to whoever won the popular vote, which Feingold had now done. He had already screened a running mate. So he placed a call to that person's office.

"Ben?"

Why had he taken this job? Jared sat there wondering for a second. He had decided to watch the election results alone, as his boss was an idiot and would be mad. Whatever. He checked the results.

2017 New Jersey Governor Election
✓Phil Murphy (D): 1,224,491 (56.81%)
Kim Guadagno (R): 852,682 (39.56%)

2017 Virginia Governor Election
✓Tom Perriello (D): 1,417,258 (54.15%)
Corey Stewart (R): 1,148,968 (43.90%)

2017 U.S. Senate Special Election in Alabama
✓Doug Jones (D): 686,516 (50.92%)
Roy Moore (R): 649,305 (48.16%)

They had even lost the Virginia legislature as well, in addition to losing the Senate. At least this nightmare would be over by January 2021, or likely earlier.

Who is Jared? Jared Kushner? Jared Polis?
Am I dumb?

great timeline!

The worse one.

That’s quite subjective but I’m thinking Jared Kushner

Ding Ding Ding
new stuff please

As soon as I have time.

Jared was running against Cory Gardner- and he would win no matter what. But the presidential race was different. Feingold had a lead in the electoral college and a massive popular vote lead, but after Hillary he wasn't going to make predictions. Just then, he looked at the map.

All was okay, but you never knew. Just then, however, the map changed.

Feingold had won. This nightmare truly was over.

FINAL:

Feingold/McAdams (D): 340 EV/54.2% PV
Trump/Pence (R): 198 EV/42.9% PV

Senate:

Democrats: 59 (+12)
Republicans: 41 (-12)
---
House:
Democratic: 244 (+13)
Republican: 191 (-13)

Yeah, I was just trying to fit characters into the plotlines. I have it worked out now.
---------------

Jon was currently in a length recount battle with incumbent Senator David Perdue. He had won by two points- but Georgia voting laws required one to get 50% of the vote to advance. If Jon won less than 50%, a runoff would occur in January, which he would likely lose, based off historic examples. He stared at the screen for the millionth time, wishing for it to change. He sighed and sat back in his chair.

2020 Georgia Senate Election
Jon Ossoff (D): 2,479,556 (50.07%)
David Perdue*(R): 2,376,175 (47.99%)

Just then he got a call from his campaign manager, Ellen. He picked it up.

"Jon you won." she said.

"What?" he questioned while also refreshing the New York Times live race updates he had been following nonstop. Sure enough, there it was:

Jon Ossoff defeats David Perdue outright.
-New York Times; November 28, 2020

2020 Georgia Senate Election
✓Jon Ossoff (D): 2,479,556 (50.07%)
David Perdue*(R): 2,376,175 (47.99%)

Well, that was a change.

Do you solemnly swear that you will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; and will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that you take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that you will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which you am about to enter: So help you God?

"I do." Polite applause broke out in the chamber as Al Gross and Senators Greenfield and Hagerty finished their oaths of office. The new Senate was much more liberal than the last one, with such luminaries like Mitch McConnell gone.

When I opened this, I was thinking it was going to be a primarily election-centered  alt history thread set in the timeframe of James Sturm's graphic novel The Golem's Mighty Swing, which was about a fictional 1920s barnstorming Jewish baseball team named the Stars of David.

January 15, 2021
"Where are we on nuking the filibuster?" President-elect Russell D. Feingold sat in his hotel suite. The good thing about being President-elect was that the budget for the transition was enormous, so Russ sat enjoying the Presidential suite at the St. Regis. He was currently on the phone with Mazie Hirono, the incoming Majority Whip.

"Do you really think we should do that? We have 60 seats." She replied.

"Yes but then we'd have to kowtow to the demands of Joe Manchin and Kristen Sinema." He followed up "Do we have enough votes."

Mazie sighed.

"Yes Mr. President-elect."

"Mr. President, a $6 Trillion bill will get us nuked in the midterms." said Secretary of the Treasury Robert Reich.

"Well if we get everything we want done now, it won't matter. Plus with the threshold for passage lowered we can let multiple Democrats vote against it. Can you give me the list on expenditures again?"

"Yes Mr. President" Reich handed over the bill, and Russ perused it.

-$1.7 Trillion for rebuilding existing transportation systems.
-$1.3 Trillion for building new infrastructure, notably HSR and green technology.
-$1.0 Trillion for COVID stimulus checks (up to $3,500 per person or $7,000 per family)
-$0.5 Trillion for low-interest loans to keep businesses running during the transition to a $15 minimum wage or expansion of businesses.
-$0.5 Trillion for childcare subsidies.
-$0.5 Trillion to expand Medicaid to those making under $40,000 per year.

The President turned to Chuck Schumer, the Senate Majority Leader.

"How many Senators do you think we can get onboard?"

"Manchin and Sinema will likely oppose it on ideological grounds. Same with Bollier and McGrath. Kelly and Warnock support it but may vote against it due to their upcoming re-election. Same with Hassan and Cortez-Matso."

"That's 53, so that should be good. If you have other members uncomfortable for some reason, cost or re-election, then you can let 3 of them vote against it."

"Yes Mr. President."

February 11, 2021

President Feingold looked at the final version of the stimulus bill that had passed Congress. It wasn't all he wanted, but it would work.

-$1.4 Trillion for rebuilding existing transportation systems.
-$1.1 Trillion for building new infrastructure, notably HSR and green technology.

He axed the proposed health care expansion because it would take up political capital he needed for his personal health care plan, which would most likely draw Republican fire more intense than Obamacare.
