Good luck living in Australia without knowing.

The learning process however did take quite a long time, and I'm still not very good at it.

No. My dad enrolled me in a swimming class through YMCA many years ago, but I didn't do that well and was absolutely terrified of deep water. The instructor of the class even recommended me for a one-on-one swimming class with one of their other instructors, something I never did. I took that swimming class during the summer of 2012, between 8th grade and my freshman year in high school. During the first semester of my freshman year, I had to take a P.E. class, and one of its requirements was a two-week swimming unit. Since I didn't know how to swim, my PE teacher put me in a special flotation device and did some very basic maneuvers with me, while having the rest of the class perform normal swimming exercises and the like. I was the only one in the class who didn't know how to swim. After I got through that unit, I have never even gone near a swimming pool, and I remain terrified of water.

2km a day when I get going.

It's great for your skin.
It's great for your lungs.
It's great for your back.
It's great for your looks.
It's great for your libido.

It's not so great for losing weight as you will chock it on on your back and shoulders.

More often than not, if you want to lose weight, you will have to add a run beforehand which makes the swim more worthwhile.

But if you suffer from Asthma, Exscema or Allergies, it is a great remedy for any or all of those three ailments.

All great.

Until you get devoured by an Australian shark.

I would've been a NAVY SEAL general right now if I knew how to swim good.

Or is it a Lieutenant Admiral Sergeant?

Navy ranks confusing AF.

(Putting on military brat cap for a moment)

If you were in the Navy or Coast Guard, you'd be an Admiral.  General is Army, Air Force, and Marines.

Yes, I swam for my highschool swim team and I continue to enjoy swiming today. Though I hate pools that have excessive chlorine or are too cold.

Yes, I know how to swim, but I am not very good and I become fatigued by it remarkably fast.

I learned to swim at a young age, and growing up in MN meant lots of lakes to swim in. I don't swim much any more, and if there's a pool I use it to cool off, not for exercise.

I learned on my own at age 4 when my Dad was throwing coins into the new pool in our backyard for my older bother to drive in and grab. I thought I want in on that action, and dived right in to get my share of the loot, and the pool had a "deep end," so that meant going seven feet down or whatever it was. No swimming lessons were necessary. My avarice led to immediate self teaching. This is actually a true story. My parents were in shock, but when I seemed to be doing just fine, so that was that.

Same thing when my older brother was reading the daily newspaper at the breakfast table and I was not able to. That sucked! I learned to read the LA Times in six months' flat (asking my mother what some words meant from time to time). That was around age 6 admittedly, rather than 4. Smiley

I learned really young but the last 7+ years it's hard to think of times I actually went swimming beyond floating in the water, working on a tan. Maybe just a handful of times.

It was one of the only things to do in my first hometown, so I learnt as a 4-5 year old, and went once a week for years. Dropped off in high school when things got busy, and my work-life balance got messed up.

Got back into it as an undergrad, and it kept me sane during my final year.

Really missed it during the pandemic. Looking to get back into it as soon as I'm vaccinated.
