The surveillance state post 9/11 was nothing new to Black America, the threat of terror was nothing new for Black Americans in the south or those brutalized by corrupt police departments across all the country. Things like the TSA style pat-downs and constant threat of suspicion were not new phenomenon for Black Americans. These ideas are obvious unless you're purposely ignorant.

9/11 and the aftermath were so ruinous to this country because most Americans do live in a bubble. The immediate bluster and fantasy that we were attacked "because they hate our freedoms" just added to this and proceeded to fuel our disastrous response to the 9/11 attacks when a more intelligent nation would have seen it as a tragic moment we were caught unaware and moved on with appropriate and limited military response towards those actually responsible. Instead of this fantastical notion of trying to restore the invincibility and perfect goodness of The United States of America.
