Latest data from the Chinese Bureau of Statistics:

In 2019, Xinjiang had a birth rate of just 0.81%

In 2018, it was 1.07%

In 2017, it was 1.59%

In 2016, it was 1.53%

In 2015, it was 1.56%

In 2014, it was 1.65%

The purge of the Uygurs and forced sterilisation started to intensify in the past 3 years or so.

Not only that, the statistics for 2018-19 also show that:

* Despite the birth rate in Xinjiang being cut more than in half between 2014-19, there was still a slight birth surplus of 0.37% in 2019.

* But the population in the province increased by 1.45% between 2018-19, meaning that 1% of the growth that year came from colonization of ethnic Chinese to the province from other parts of China.

So, China is not only sterilizing the Uygur women, but also massively colonizing the region with their own folk.

The sterilization is its own thing, of course, but this part is a tactic the PRC has probably used before to deal with restive parts of the country outside China Proper. They've been accused of doing it with Tibet over the past ten or twenty years, although not with Inner Mongolia, which has been mostly Han for at least a century.

Similarities with the 19th century US Native American genocide grow each day. Truly sickening, they didn’t even try to hide it!

I'm next to 100% positive nobody who's posted in or even recommended any of the posts in this thread so far condones that either.

Well I would agree and hope so. My intent wasn’t to distract from this awful attack on the Uighurs, it was more to serve a good comparison so we know how to view this in both atrocity itself and in the intention.

Here:

The birth rate in China only declined by some 15% between 2014 and 2019, from 1.24% to 1.05%, whereas it was more than cut in half in Xinjiang at the same time ...
