I don't mean this question to be personal against anyone but I always wondered do political and news distractions harm productivity and later economic growth?

I imagine this may have happened during the 2015-2020 when the news and politics was always chaotic so it may have made it harder for employees to concentrate. Or is this just theoretical?

Yes, in some cases.

It's more than just a political distraction, but the uncertainty between the Brexit referendum and Boris Johnson winning the 2019 election is a good example, it probably hurt the UK economy on its own, before Brexit was even implemented.

All economics is politics.

That's something I learned within 5 minutes into Macroeconomics 101 in college.
