I think that it’s become increasingly clear since the election and since Biden’s term began that he was the most progressive choice in the primary, in that he was the candidate who was going to be most able to pass a progressive agenda, for the following reasons:
1. Electability: Considering how little margin for error there ended up being in the Electoral College, I think it quite possible that Biden was the only candidate who could have won the general election.
2. Getting a trifecta: Control of Congress went down to the wire, and the issues which hurt Democrats most in congressional races were “socialism” and wokeness, which only would have been amplified were Bernie or Warren the nominee. In fact, I could even see Dems losing the House had they been nominated. It goes without saying that very little of substance would have been able to be passed without a trifecta.
3. Messaging: Biden has governed well to the left of how he campaigned, and due to his more moderate image he can more easily pass progressive legislation with less blowback than Bernie or Warren could have.
