Retired NBA star JJ Redick of Brooklyn defeats NYC Mayor Andrew Yang in the 2025 NYC Democratic primary. Yang becomes the first mayor to lose a primary since Ed Koch in 1989.

Redick faces off against Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella, the Republican candidate.

Redick would win every borough except for Staten Island, Fossella's second best district would be Manhattan
