Could Colonel Sanders have beaten DJT either time? Absolutely. Would I bet $20 on a Sanders presidency? Hell no.

I think Bernie would have defeated Trump in 2016 because back then, the electorate wasn't used to Trump yet. However in 2020 with Trump having an incumbency advantage, he may have lost the election after desensitizing a lot of conservatives who were initially reluctant to vote for him in 2016.

2016:

Virginia would also be a 1-2 point win for Bernie. Hed lose WI cause he would do terrible in WOW and hed not do good enough in driftless to offset it.

2016: Maybe

2020: Probably not, Bernie's underperformance in the primaries and the fact that Biden himself just barely squeaked by leads me to believe that Sanders probably loses.

Yes to both, but barely. I think he'd get the 278 map in 2016, and maybe he'd narrowly win Arizona in 2020 with a slightly different coalition from Biden.

He would have been brutally spanked both times, but especially in 2020.

I think he would have won in both but he was a stronger candidate in 2016 in 2020 it would be closer but I think sanders would still narrowly get across the line cause of COVID and the George floyd stuff

No way. Bernie woulda gotten red-baited into oblivion. Ask yourself, is the average American gonna choose the democratic-socialist, or the fascist?

Joey won because calling Joe Biden, the man who wrote the 1994 crime bill and marshaled support for the Iraq War a commie is just too much of a stretch.

Southern Florida still fell for it though. Which tells me Bernie would've tanked hardcore

By more, and with better downballot balance [well as long as the appropriate primary match-ups link...ex: Eruca Smith, Tzitzun Ramirez or Royce West, Betsy Sweet, etc.]

He'd flip Maine-02, he'd do better in the anti-neoliberal Midwest [especially Wisconsin], and he'd have gotten Texas closer thanks to the Hispanic vote and employing the exact same strategies that won him Nevada on a bigger scale.

Trump was the Hillary, and Biden was the Trump this time.

No, I truly think that all Trump would have had to do would be call Bernie "Commie Bernie" a few times, and both elections would have been landslides.

The right-wing smear machine would've gone into overdrive. You give the average American a choice between a socialist and a fascist, they're going to choose the fascist.

The average American is 40 or so, the average under 35 would definitely vote socialist first. It's only a few years away at most.

I don't see any Trump opponent in either year getting less than about 220 EVs. Bernie loses Florida in both, maybe keeps Ohio closer. It comes down to WI/MI/PA, again.

A) >60% of voters are over 35 per most exit polls

B) Wait until every social media company tweaks their algorithm to favor anti-Bernie content.

Corporate America wouldn't have given him a fair chance.

Lean yes for 2016, pure toss up for 2020, though a Bernie win would be very dependent on WI, MI, and PA.  However, in a 2020 without COVID, Bernie loses. I think outside of maybe MI, the 2016 map would stay in tact, and NV would be at risk of going to Trump.

2016: Probably

2020: Maybe, but even if he won there would be no chance of a Senate majority

I would say there's a high chance Trump wins both times, but a Sanders win would've been far more likely in 2016.
