I felt previous polls had not justified the real closeness of this race.  Ford has the potential to be a national star in the Democratic party if he can win this race.  I know it will be hard-fought but I still think this is the year he could most do it.  It would be good to see another black Senator in Washington.

On a side note - why is it black candidates are emerging prominently now?  Michael Coleman, Kweisi Mfume, Ken Blackwell and Ford are all potential people for higher office.  Why is it it took from 1979 to 2005 for there to be a new black Senator?  Did Obama's arrival presage a new era or emergence of African Americans breaking the mould?  I have just realised that Carol Moseley Braun was a Senator from Illinois from 1993-1999 but I think the question and point still stands.

Well, if you look what happened in 2004, not only was Obama elected, Ken Salazar was elected, and then Menendez. So, after 2004, the color barrier was broken.

With MoE this could still be Corker +11. Just like it's been all the time.

I haven't heard a lot about Corker (but what I have heard I've liked), but I think Ford definitely deserves this election.  He is one of the hardest working politicians out there.

Ford has a bigtime uphill battle to win this race. Corker seems like he generally fits the state well.
