"Former Thai Premier Thaksin Submits Petition for Royal Pardon"

With the pro-military forces in alliance with PT this will for sure pass

Thailand seems poised to become one of the next countries to enact marriage equality, assuming a civilian government gains power. Both the Move Forward party and the Pheu Thai party, who are in favor of this reform, form the possible future government.

There are definitely lots of structural challenges to overcome, especially with the military still holding significant self-appointed power. Despite these obstacles however, with the current political climate, it seems like one of the next countries in which it's a possibility at some point in the near future.

It's heartening to witness such progress. On top of other much-needed Democratic reforms that would likely come along with a civilian government.

Multiple sources now saying that this is in the works. Congrats if true, Thailand!

Surprised this is going through considering the military parties are in government but I guess it's not a big enough priority for them to try and go to a new election with their popularity still kinda down atm.

"Thaksin Picked as Most Influential Thai Politician in Survey"

Thaksin was the true winner of the 2023 Thailand election.  His daughter failed to become PM but in the greater scheme of things it did not matter.

Quote
Nearly 43% of the respondents chose Thaksin, according to a nationwide poll of 1,310 people conducted by the National Institute of Development Administration. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, who is from the ruling Pheu Thai party backed by Thaksin, came in second with 22% of the responses.

Quote
Pita Limjaroenrat — a former leader of the Move Forward Party when it won the most parliamentary seats in the election in May 2023 — was third, getting a little over 17%, according to the poll, which was conducted via telephone between Feb. 27 and 29. Prayuth Chan-Ocha, former junta leader, followed as fourth at 15%.
