Parker did better in the Electoral College, carrying Kentucky and technically Maryland (individual elector voting was wonky there), and didn't hemorrhage left-wing support the way that Davis did to La Follette.

Parker, in the sense that 1904 was a totally hopeless year when no prominent Democrat even wanted the nomination, while you had totally serious candidates fighting in 1924; I don't know that it was as clear then that victory was impossible.
