I did not realize you were a Liberal. Since you were first, I will end my campaign and endorse yours. Good luck!

Thank you two for the support!

Folks, we just saw democracy in action, and it spoke clearly. I am happy to say that Lincoln has chosen new, pragmatic leadership to help guide our region to prosperity. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Lincoln Council.

I would also like to thank everyone who participated in this election, both those who did and did not vote for me. I am grateful for how much civility and respect was displayed by all participants. I hope that this tradition continues onward, as this is what makes democracy thrive.

Thank you.

We just passed a new constitution by a 4-1 vote, which would eliminate the current quasi-parliamentary system and replace it with a presidential system (You can see the details here). While it would eliminate my chancellor office, I believe that it presents a major improvement in our system of governance. Thus, I encourage everyone to vote for it in the referendum this weekend.

Now that we are in the waning minutes of the election, I am happy to say that I have been reelected by a commanding margin. I would like to thank everyone who supported me. I will return the favor by working hard for the people of Lincoln every day.  It also seems that voters overwhelmingly supported the new constitution, which should but Lincoln on the right track to success. I look forward to working with everyone elected to the General Court. Thank you and good night.

I'd like to encourage everyone to vote No on Question 501 and Yes on Question 502 in the current referendum. The subregional senate proposal in Question 501 doesn't make sense since subregions are entirely arbitrary collections of states. They do not have sovereign interests like regions nor are they equal in population, so it would not make sense for them to get specific representation. Maybe instead of moving onto another constitution so quickly, one could instead place blame on the current composition of the Atlasian Senate for making it so difficult to pass bills. Question 502 just fixes minor errors in the new constitution, so might as well vote for it.

Hello again. It may be surprising that I am now running for two offices, a national Senate seat and a seat in the General Court. The decision of my friend Ishan to run for a regional Senate seat rather than a national one has brought me into this Senate race, for I believe that the people of Atlasia deserve a Liberal representing them nationally. However, I am also concerned for the lack of activity in the Lincoln General Court and would like to make sure that there are enough candidates vying for it. If I am fortunate enough to be elected to both offices, my choice of which office to take will be based on the circumstances at hand. I have been a very active member of the Lincoln General Court, having sponsored many bills, some garnering strong cross-party support. I am ready to bring the same energy to the Senate in service of the Atlasian people. If elected to the Senate, my focus will be directed towards:

  • Working across the aisle to find common ground and put Atlasia over politics
  • Promoting free market policies to help all Atlasians prosper
  • Defending civil liberties and the constitution
  • Working with international partners to solve global problems, such as climate change

Feel free to ask any questions.

I would like to thank everyone who made this victory possible. I will always be fighting for all Atlasians and am optimistic for what is to come in Atlasia's first unicameral Congress. Since the Senate is swearing in later than usual, I will first serve a bit of another term in the Lincoln General Court and then resign to serve in the Senate. It seems that there are some uncertainties regarding the final result of the presidential contest, which I expect to be cleared out later. Nevertheless, it is great the number of people who made their voice heard!

Statement on Rules Package

My fellow Senators and I have been working on the rules package, which must be passed before the Senate can work on any other matters. After input from many Senators, including me, the rules package looks to be in good shape. I will vote for the package so the Senate can get working for the Atlasian people. One of the first duties of this new Senate will be to hold confirmation hearings for the new administration. I plan on voting to confirm any qualified nominees who are within the ideological mainstream. Since there has already been some discussion regarding the next presidential election, I would like to state that I am not supporting any presidential campaign at this time.

Statement on Recent Senate Business

The Senate has already voted on quite a few bills. If you have any questions as to why I voted a certain way on a bill, let me know and I will share my reasoning. I would like to highlight my contribution to the budget. I successfully added an amendment that brought simple tax reforms, which were making the corporate tax flat and getting rid of the egregiously high top income tax rate. While I would like to see more reform, it seems unlikely that much more can be done given the current balance of power here in Nyman. We are also wrapping up the confirmation hearing for President Sev's nominee for Secretary of State, IBNU. While I have expressed some doubt in the qualifications of the nominee, I am aware that it may be difficult to find an alternative for this position and that previous Secretaries of State have set a very low bar in terms of activity. For those reasons, I decided to vote to confirm the nominee.

Today, I would like to thank the Labor Party for being sincere in what it stands for. It has taken a step towards transparency by removing the mask covering its true nature. The Labor Party just adopted a new amendment to its official platform, stating: "The means of production should belong to the workers who use them." This is the core tenant of socialism, an outdated, failed ideology that has been unsuccessful in lifting people out of poverty and instead crushed the economic opportunity of millions around the world. While Atlasia still is not a socialist state thanks to a vigilant opposition, many of Labor's more radical economic policies have already taken hold, such as tax rates exceeding 100% for some in Fremont.

Fortunately, Atlasia remains a healthy liberal democracy with free and fair elections, meaning there are many alternative parties to choose from. I urge anyone who is opposed to socialism to leave the Labor Party and join any one of our less radical parties, even if it is not my own.

Tony Blair distanced the British Labour Party from worker ownership with his revision of Clause IV, while the Atlasian Labor Party explicitly endorses worker ownership, so it is further left in that respect. The Labor platform is not equivalent to an endorsement of a European-style welfare state, which contain capitalist economies characterized by a strong private sector that is not worker owned. If the platform had said "The Labor Party is socialist," perhaps I could have given it the benefit of the doubt because it is not uncommon to refer to oneself as a socialist without truly being a socialist. However, the Labor platform made it clear that it supports real socialism, not social democracy labelled as "socialism."

Even if this isn't exactly a new plank of the platform, many Atlasians are likely not aware of this part of the platform, and I thought that it would be worthwhile to bring this to their attention. I know that many people agree with me.

I also fail to see how my statement regarding Fremont's taxes is controversial, since the sum of the 60% top regional rate and the 40.6% top federal exceeds 100%. The corporate tax rates also dwarf those of any other developed country in the world, and that's on top of the federal rates. I have already opined greatly on the tax rates of Lincoln, which suffers from some of the same problems, so I'll stop here to avoid sounding like a broken record.

What’s so bad about worker ownership (of at least certain industries)? Or at least greater participation of the people who actually are the backbone of the company in running what goes on behind the scenes of the company? As it stands decisions are handed in from top down often with zero input from the workers - only from the major decision makers and the shareholders. I don’t see what’s so wrong or radical about undoing that unhealthy dynamic.

Nothing, people should be able to start coops if they want. I just don't think that the state should give one ownership form the leg up.

Statement on Current State of Atlasia

There is some concern over the lack of activity in Atlasia, and this concern is grounded in reality. There are hardly any people running for office this month and fewer bills are being debated than usual. Real life often gets in the way of Atlasia, and we have to respect that. However, I believe that Atlasia will survive this period for it has gotten past multiple activity crises in its long history. I will continue to be an active voice on the floor of the Senate and am standing for reelection in the August Federal Elections, which begin tomorrow.

Statement on Recent Election

August elections have completed, and I would like to thank the people of Atlasia for electing me to another term. I will continue work to help all Atlasians and help keep Atlasia active. I am open to any questions or suggestions from my constituents, which include everyone in the country.

Statement On Political Parties

As you can see, I have recently joined the Democratic Alliance. I felt that this party is the best fit for my views. However, my political philosophy has remain unchanged, and I will always vote for what I believe is right, independent of outside pressure.

I would also like to note that I disagree with the Democratic Alliance's recent statement condemning the Federalist Party and have a desire to continue to cooperate with the party where feasible.

Statement on October Elections

As you may have noticed, I have endorsed Senator Joseph Cao for President. I believe that he has the skills and experience needed to serve as an effective commander-in-chief. He has provided valuable contributions to the Senate floor and is always dedicated to Atlasia. He also represents a fresh change in leadership compared to the long streak of left-wing Presidents we have had for the past several cycles. I believe that this change in pace would help invigorate activity in Atlasia further, which everyone can agree is a good thing.

I would also like to announce that I am not running for reelection in October. I have many IRL obligations to attend to and would prefer that someone who is willing to devote more time to the game would be better suited in my place. I may run for office again sometime in the distant future, however.

Statement on Constitutional Amendment

I would like to encourage everyone to vote "No" on the proposed constitutional amendment in Lincoln. While including declared write-ins when determining the size of the General Court may sound good at first, it could lead to gaming of the system. Since a declaration as a write-in can be made at the end of the election, when almost all the votes have been cast, it could be used strategically to secure a party an advantage if that party would win the extra seat.

Statement on Federal Elections

As you may already know, I have endorsed Sen. Joseph Cao for president. Until now, I have been undecided as to who should be my second choice for President. After some consideration, I have decided to endorse Sen. Spark for second preference. Despite our disagreements, I commend his push to reign in excessive taxation and spending in the federal government, and he has comported himself very professionally and respectfully during the campaign. While I respect Sen. Scott, I believe that Sen. Spark is closer to what this country needs in a commander-in-chief.

I would also like to express disappointment in the lack of centrist and right-of-center candidates on the ballot for national senate. Without write-ins, left-wing candidates are guaranteed to win a Senate majority, and for that, I recommend that everyone give write-in candidate Lechasseur a high preference.
