So I notice this board is mostly dead, so I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a pre-civil war interest game particularly ranging from 1828 to 1852 as I'd like it to be after direct election of EC electors became commonplace and before the death of the Whigs, vote for your preference!

1848 would be my top preference though I do think 1832 could be very interesting (I can see how it would be difficult to GM though), 1852 is also a good option too.

Poll will close Thursday night (I will lock before I go to sleep), whichever game is leading then will be picked

Wouldn’t it be better to do a runoff if none of them have a majority?

I was thinking about this, but wasn't sure, there are multiple options tied for second though. Also if we do a runoff, I'd probably close the poll tonight, so there are two days for the runoff.

Runoff poll now open, I will pick the option that has the most votes as a third runoff will delay the game start too much

1848 makes the most sense to me, though I think we should make Taylor not avaliable.

1848 or 1852 are both good. I'd like to play as the Free Soil Party in either case

Poll is closed, expect an intro write up listing possible candidates either tonight or tomorrow afternoon, 1848 is the choice, and signups will last through Sunday night.

Intro

President Polk has chose to retire, leaving behind a truly consequential legacy. The Mexican American War has brought vast new swaths of territory to the United States and has reopened the hated question of slavery, with northern abolitionists and southern extremists already agitating for their side of the debate. The question of further expansion has also arisen, and is particularly popular in the South. The Whigs will try to prove that the country needs a new direction from Polk, having lost every election they competed in until 1840, and having come close in 1844, they will try to win two out of the last three. The Democrats will try to argue that President Polk's legacy was beneficial for the nation and having won every election that they competed in except for 1840, will seek to reassert their dominance of the presidency. The candidates will need to appeal to both the northern and southern wings of their party, who have decidedly different views on the issues and the direction of the country. As the election of 1848 nears, the nation's direction and future is uncertain. Welcome to 1848: An Uncertain Future!

Potential Candidates:

Democrats:

Senator Lewis Cass of Michigan-RGM2609
Associate Justice Levi Woodbury of New Hampshire
Secretary of State James Buchanan of Pennsylvania
Former President Martin Van Buren of New York-KaiserDave

Whigs:

General Zachary Taylor of Louisiana
Former Senator Henry Clay of Kentucky-JoeInator
General Winfield Scott of New Jersey-SlamDunk
Senator Daniel Webster of Massachusetts-FalterinArc
Senator John Middleton Clayton of Delaware
Associate Justice John McLean of Ohio

Rules:

1. Do not use racial slurs such as the ni- and ne- word uncensored, preferably don't use that at all, I understand you might have to use them in the context of the time period, if you must, please censor as many letters as you can.
2. Do not play out of character, I'm going to give you guys lots of leeway here, but I don't want to see Lewis Cass advocating for abolition of slavery or Henry Clay arguing for low tariffs
3. If you are going to travel across the country, which I will allow, please make your trips of reasonable length, you are not going from New York to Charleston and back in 2 days, be realistic.
4. Have fun!
