Last one! I'll be closing all of the polls in two days, so if you haven't voted, do so before then, especially on the ones which are tied!

2021 was overall a pretty good year for me, especially compared to the previous year from March to December. I got vaccinated in March, so pretty much from that point on, my life returned to being about 80-90% normal. My job returned to being partially in person in the spring, and completely in person in the fall, and while there have been some challenges with that, it's definitely preferable to teaching virtually. I also got to travel again for the first time in over a year. My wife and I had our honeymoon in Hawaii, one year later than initially planned, but it was incredible. We also saw some national parks, including Yellowstone and Arches, and we went to Florida. My wife got to see some of her family for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, and while we couldn't do any international travel, it felt good to be mostly back to normal. Overall, B+, though I'm guessing most will grade it more harshly.

F, solely because of my father's death. He passed on November 15, 2021.

A+, one of the best years of my life.

We started to see the light at the end of the tunnel for COVID, if just barely.

I successfully defended my dissertation with no required revisions.

I landed the job of my dreams back home, and I left Wisconsin (no love lost for the place).

I became a homeowner for the first time.

I celebrated the holidays in their entirety with my family for the first time in 7 years.

I got a couple of publications accepted, and I was offered a solo chapter at a major journal.

Mostly terrible year. The latter half of the year, and continuing into the present, constitutes the worst phase of my life I have ever experienced.

B+

Everything that could go right did, except for my mother.  Alas, she passed away in April.

No matter how peaceful it turned out, no matter how nice the funeral was, no matter how expected and needed...she's still gone.

C. I started my longest (now completed) fanfiction project in Werewolves, and I also got to go to Colorado a few times. However, the Republicans started clawing back, so that wasn't good.

B-. Probably about average, there were some good parts, some okay parts and some bad parts (late January and early Feburary saw a health scare but it turned out fine, luckily; March to May was great; the summer was okay; August onward was also about okay and very eventful since we moved houses after nearly 4.5 years).

Saw absolutely no point in voting on years before middle school. I feel like I'm rating 2014, 2015, and 2021 a little too highly in hindsight, but can't change my vote now.

B+ for me personally. My mental health was greatly improving throughout the year and I even managed to get a job.

I think I returned to the Atlas after a long absence in 2021.  So, dumb and bad.  Smiley

A. Covid sucked, but 2021 was an extremely formative year for me. Getting a new job, starting senior year, clearing up lots of mental health problems, and overall laying the groundwork for my adult self, it was important. It also led to the end of the Trump presidency, which ain't a bad bonus. 2021 was a great year, and I don't have any major complaints, ignoring a few bad events like 1/6 or my grandfather's death.

In many ways I'd argue 2021 was more frustrating than 2020.

At least once COVID hit I could at least say "ride it out and then we'll be back to normal". But for much of the year the prospect of reuniting with my sister was looking increasingly grim, and now I have no idea when my mother will see her in person. And the second lockdown was tougher than the first because 1. the rest of the world wasn't suffering from it and 2. I was not feeling any support from other Australians for much of it and was polarised in a way that felt really, really gross.

The sad thing is that if you'd take the COVID related stuff away, this year is probably in the A-range. I got a new job, graduated from uni, and got closer to my friends both metaphorically (hung out with them more) and literally (a bunch of them bought a house near mine). But the lockdown period was nasty enough I can't give it more than a C+.

B+, until November it was a solid A but personal reasons :/

You might remember I used to have a FL avatar cause I spent a few months down there, that was Jan and Feb (and Dec 2020); good times. Pandemic things started to get better in the spring and I was able to take some trips and have a busy summer. The last two months brought it down a couple of notches though.

S—thole year.

F.

Only towards the very end did it even come close to redeeming itself. This year has been a little better so far.

B+. Grading on a steep curve because my 2020 was so spectacularly sh*tty. Returned to stable employment and financial self sufficiency doing things I love, came out of my shell again socially a little bit (though not as much as early 2019), and began to have my severe OCD recede - instead of being continuous, it now comes in waves months apart.
