North Carolina votes for Democrats at the state level, but at the federal level, it is Lean R.....

Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper is term-limited, and some say he is eyeing Washington, D.C.

Who on the Democratic side can keep this streak?

Who on the Republican side can win for the first time since 2012?

Why can't the NCGOP make a big boo boo and nominate Potty Pat?

Given that Mark Robinson managed to win statewide last year, I don't think that any Republican would be at a disadvantage to reclaim the seat, given the rapid nationalization of the state's once solidly Democratic politics since 2010 and Cooper's relative powerlessness. While I imagine that her political career is (thankfully) over, there'd be something perversely amusing about Cherie Berry getting the nod.

I'm fully expecting Governor Robinson as well.

The first Black governor, Mark Robinson will not get accolades because he is a Black Republican.

I see the Dems holding on.....

Josh Stein is the strongest candidate on the Dem side. I assume he'll run. I think thus race depends a lot on the national environment. If the Republican presidential nominee carries NC, then I expect the GOP governor candidate will as well. Same goes for Democrats.

Spoken like someone who has no idea who Tim Scott is, or other such token figures like Bobby Jindal (probably Robinson's closest historical parallel that I can think of).

.

It is not a Lean R state at any level we lost the Prez and Sen race by 150 K votes, underestimate Jeff Jackson at your will and Rs gotta a surprise coming as D's net 52 seats in NOV make or break OH , while GA goes to runoff

Just like WI isn't an R state, both of them are purple 🟣 and still

D's gotta 2/3 chance to win GA, WI, PA while 1/3 chance winnable by NC Ds, while Rs only have a 1/3 chance at winning WI

Rs have 0/3 chance of keeping PA, and NH due to the D tolilt of the state and Fetterman and Hassan will win

I don't think anybody pays attention to the record of the Lieutenant Governor, since it's a useless position. Dan Forest is a good example--he has a similar gaffe-filled history as Robinson but was elected twice--before losing to Cooper embarrassingly.

Josh Stein is clearly angling for this btw.
