Obligatory "it's the Intercept" but it's actually one of their rare factually-based stories:

He knows that Rs night lose 2 Terms under Biden he knows that 2022 and 2024 Senate maps look ugly for Rs, Rs aren't retaking Senate as long as D's win WI and PA in 2022 and 2024 Bob Casey and Fetterman are gonna win and Tom Nelson and Tammy Baldwin are gonna win.  If D's solidify the 52 seat Majority and the Trifecta in 2022, 2024 won't matter with OH, WVA and MT. It's a long way until 2022 for Ds to rebound in the House

The Insurrectionists put a damper on R chances to retake Congress and Prez

DC has a good chance of becoming a state not PR an 11 judge panel not 13 is the most likely outcome

I actually support that bill and others like it. If voters chose a party to represent them in the Senate, then if something happens to that person, someone from the same party should be appointed. They'll still be subject to a special election, so if voters want a change in leadership, they can just vote out the appointee.

If getting this bill into law means getting McConnell out sooner, I'm all for it. Time for some fresh blood in that seat.

It doesn't look like that to me. It looks more like a monarch, in good health, arranging for their succession on the assumption that they won't be around to see to an orderly abdication at a predetermined time.

In other words, he's preparing to be a lifer.

McConnell does seem like the type of Senator who would spend his time on his deathbed trying to make sure his successor gets the seat.

In regards to the law change this is basically an arms race that is going to happen more & more; Governor appointments are a hangover from a bygone era & it's going to take the senate flipping as a result of one to finally push every state to do this.

While this is surely motivated by pure partisanship, they say even a broken clock is right twice a day. Every state should have a law like this. Whether we like it or not, most people vote based on party, and if a senator should die or resign in the middle of their term, the seat shouldn't flip just because the governor's of the opposite party.
