People just think that's quirky, while if she was a Mussolini stan she'd be rightfully called a fascist and have a 0% approval rating.

I know this is off-topic, but how does such a person get elected in any sane city?

Was there nobody opposing her? Is this in the U.S. or not?

I never understand why being a neo-nazi is indisputably bad, enough so to get you kicked off the forum, but being a tankie is a "new and interesting perspective."

I guess it's because a lot of people in America go through an edgy anti-American phase at some point in their lives where they learn about CIA activities during the Cold War, decide that everything they learned about America must be wrong and therefore the communists were actually the good guys.  And they memorize some USSR propaganda talking points about why America is bad and communism is good, and go around repeating them to annoy people for a little while until they grow out of it.  So they empathize with others who are going through that same phase.  Having an edgy nazi phase, in contrast, isn't an American rite of passage.

I live a stone's throw away from CHAZ.  Sawant specifically represents this area of the city.  It's not a sane voter base at all.

It's really not based.  The $15 minimum wage is OK but mostly because it aligns with the cost of living around here -- everything is very expensive.  And that's all outweighed by the city's many social problems, primarily the homelessness crisis, literally crumbling infrastructure, major issues with our justice system, and lots of graft and corruption.

But people want to live here because the weather is nice, it's close to lots of nature and the ocean, it's very pretty and has a lot of culture and things to do, and there are no Trump voters.  Myself included.
