Interesting map, but Trump is an interesting candidate.
Businessman Donald Trump/Governor Bob Graham; 295 E.V./48.2% P.V. Governor George W. Bush/Defense Secretary Dick Cheney; 243 E.V./46.1% P.V.2004:
Governor Bill Weld/Joint Chief of Staff Colin Powell; 306 E.V./51.3% P.V.President Donald Trump/Vice President Bob Graham; 232 E.V./46.9% P.V.Despite lower conservative turnout, many dissatisfied/establishment Dems crossed the line to endorse Weld/Powell, as he wins the first GOP victory since Bush Sr. in 1988. Political pundits and analysts compare the 2004 election to the 1992 election and believe that Weld is the Republican's answer to Bill Clinton and Al Gore. Most shocking is the GOP's narrow flip of Minnesota, due to high urban turnout for Weld/Powell in the greater Minneapolis area. Illinois was also close to flipping for similar reasons, although Trump's domination across the rural areas of the state kept it in the Trump column by a slim margin. This is also the first time that Illinois voted for the Democratic nominee without Cook county since 1912 which narrowly flipped by about 14,000 votes.
