Hi folks. Just popping in to say that this doesn't seem like a very controversial bill, and I hope you can get it off the floor as soon as possible Cheesy

I'm echoing this- this is a common sense bill and I'll give senators some time to comment on this but hoping to get a vote on this as soon as we can.

The rules fix was SR28:19 on the list this would be SB28:20. The list is with my amendment tracker on the notice board. I update it when I get home.

Edit: forgot the special election bill thing that is being killed.

I will add these to the list when I get home.

Edit2: Forget what I said in Edit1

Can we get a link to the 2018 law in question hyperlinked to the name in the text? That will make it easier for people to follow what is happening here.

The links to all the legislation are in the house thread. I’m busy tonight but someone else is welcome to add that in.

Hi, folks. For my advocacy, I'll give a brief explanation of the legislative history behind this.

In 2017, President dfw signed the Tipped Minimum Wage Abolition Act of 2017. This bill immediately abolished the tipped minimum wage -- no graduated steps, no waiting period. Just abolished it.

In 2018, Yankee signed the Tipped Employee Protection Act of 2018. Apparently unaware that the tipped minimum wage was already repealed, Congress passed a scheme to gradually ramp up the tipped minimum wage. In doing so, it lowered the tipped minimum wage to $5. With the $2 increase in FY 2021, it currently stands at $7 -- well below the "normal" minimum wage.

All Atlasians deserve a living wage. I urge Congress to rectify this error, and ensure that all employees are treated equally.

So as not ambush anybody I’ll likely be calling for a final vote on this within 12-24 hours... I support a living wage for all workers, not just some.

Presidential Signing Statement
As I said in the Senate's debate on this, the issue of tipped employees and minimum wage law has been a perplexing one throughout the history of this game. This is caused as I said by a lack of awareness as to how the system is presently setup and then a lack of understanding on how the impact of changes will likely affect tips going forward. Beyond that point it becomes a question of whether or not one sees the tipped employee situation as desirable or one that should be moved away from. While it opens the door to the possibility of earning more than they would otherwise, it also comes with the risk of earning less than minimum wage. In the past we have had schemes enacted to ensure that they were paid enough cumulative to not fall below the minimum wage.

Anyway, from my personal perspective here I am willing to defer to Congress and their present judgement on the matter, which in the form of the act below, would likely serve to phase out tipped employment for the most part.

I had exactly six hours left in my term when I signed that and while I had concerns naturally, I figured congress had sorted them out.

Remembering each and every individual bill is a struggle for me, that is why I have gone to such extreme lengths to ensure noticeboard and bill format lends itself well to wiki updates, because I need them as a reference guide myself. Here I deferred to much to Congress in terms of sorting this kind of problem out.
