Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has her first public Democratic challenger after Holly McCormack announced her plans this week to challenge the conspiracy theorist for her seat in the heavily GOP district in Georgia.

Several other Democrats have filed to run in 2022, Federal Election Commission records show, but McCormack, a 36-year-old insurance agent, is the first known candidate to publicly launch a campaign, said Maggie Chambers, the Georgia Democratic Party's communications director.
"The official candidate qualifying period is not until early 2022. McCormack's candidacy is the only one we know of to have launched publicly, but other candidates have filed with the FEC," Chambers told CNN.

The race will likely be closely watched, as Greene has faced sharp criticism for indicating support for political violence and pushing wild conspiracy theories before she was elected to Congress. But Democrats are facing a daunting task in winning in Georgia's solidly red 14th District, where Greene won with nearly 75% of the vote in 2020.

Race is still Safe R at the moment, but McCormack looks like a pretty good wave insurance recruit....

This isn't wave insurance, it's straight up not winnable. Dems don't ever get more than 30% in this district. Why do people somehow think that because cable news is outraged by her that regular Republicans would be too?

One thing to mention is this district is probably moving a decent bit left if I had to guess although still Safe R.

This isn’t actually news — she’s been in the race for more than two months. Regardless, even if Strahan runs a 'Feenstra-style' campaign, MTG has next to nothing to worry about next year as Steve King lost for reasons/factors largely unrelated to this race, mostly the recent competitiveness of the seat with him as the incumbent (not the case here) and his long tenure in office coupled with his perceived ineffectiveness in Congress (and his no longer really having his finger on the pulse of the GOP base, especially in his district — most of his "controversial comments" sounded like clumsy, performative, and largely outdated liberal caricatures of things Republicans supposedly care about that exploited little of the underlying/prevalent fear of systemic left-wing authoritarianism in society and government, something MTG is far more skilled at than King).

Georgia Democrats are trying to throw Marjorie Taylor Greene off of the ballot as a result of her actions on 1/6/2021.

Quote
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican running for reelection, is the latest lawmaker to face a candidacy challenge over her actions before the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol.

The challenge was filed by the same coalition of constitutional scholars and liberal activists who unsuccessfully tried to block Rep. Madison Cawthorn from the GOP primary ballot in North Carolina.

The new challenge against Greene, which was filed this week with the Georgia secretary of state, could potentially force Greene to testify under oath about the Capitol riot. An official from the secretary of state's office confirmed to CNN that the challenge was filed on Thursday and said an administrative judge will be assigned, according to state law, to "evaluate the merits of the allegations."

In their legal challenge, the groups zeroed in on many of Greene's comments before January 6, 2021. In one video, she explicitly said she opposed the transfer of power from then-President Donald Trump to then-President-elect Joe Biden because Biden "did not win this election" and is "guilty of treason."

"She was involved in either planning the attack on January 6, or alternatively the planning of the pre-attack demonstration and/or march on the Capitol with knowledge that it was substantially likely to lead to the attack, and otherwise voluntarily aided the insurrection," the challengers wrote in a 42-page filing, citing Greene's social media posts and news reports about her alleged meetings with January 6 rally organizers.

A spokesman for Greene previously said that on January 6, 2021, she was solely focused on objecting to Biden's electoral votes on the House floor and "had nothing to do with planning of any protest."

This will fail just like it did in NC.
NC had a more liberal court than GA and it still failed miserably (as was obvious from the start).
They're just grifting at this point.
