I would like to introduce the following legislation in the Presidential slot.

Quote
A BILL
To rectify the unintentional re-establishment of the tipped minimum wage.
Be it enacted in both Houses of Congress assembled

II. TITLE

1. The title of this act shall be the "Fixing Tipped Minimum Wage Laws Act."

I. PROVISIONS

1. The Tipped Employee Protection Act of 2018 is hereby repealed.

III. ENACTMENT

2. This legislation shall go into effect immediately upon the President's signature.

I move to sponsor on behalf of the President.

Basically this bill fixes an oversight made in the past where two similar-minded but overlapping laws were passed at different times. I hope we can fast track this.

Hi, folks. For my advocacy, I'll give a brief explanation of the legislative history behind this.

In 2017, President dfw signed the Tipped Minimum Wage Abolition Act of 2017. This bill immediately abolished the tipped minimum wage -- no graduated steps, no waiting period. Just abolished it.

In 2018, Yankee signed the Tipped Employee Protection Act of 2018. Apparently unaware that the tipped minimum wage was already repealed, Congress passed a scheme to gradually ramp up the tipped minimum wage. In doing so, it lowered the tipped minimum wage to $5. With the $2 increase in FY 2021, it currently stands at $7 -- well below the "normal" minimum wage.

All Atlasians deserve a living wage. I urge Congress to rectify this error, and ensure that all employees are treated equally.

I motion to suspend the rules and proceed to a final vote. 24 hours to object.

So yes, this was an...oversight on my part when I was a new player, and I encourage Congress to quickly rectify.

So my understanding is that this resets us back to 2017 and no tipped minimum wage whatsoever?

Abstain (possibly for now).
